Veterinarians

Stephen M. Katz, VMD

General practioner and owner Stephen M. Katz has working with animals since 1972. It was in January of this year that he decided to become a veterinarian, when he helped capture and save a 23 foot long reticulated python that had escaped from its cage at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Since then, he's mapped sea turtle nesting beaches in French Guinua and the Galapagos Islands and was the the assistant director of the Hai Bar Biblical Wildlife Preserve in Israel.

A graduate of Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Katz is a native of Jericho, New York, and has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1984. He opened the hospital in 1995 and is specifically interested in dermatology and the science of allergies.

Dr. Katz and his wife, practice manager Nicole, have four daughters: Ariella, Sydney, Skylar and Shira. Sydney and Skylar both practice Tae Kwon Do, and Shira loves to dance. Ariella recently graduated from college and all are huge animal lovers. The family has a dog named Molly, a cat named Puck and two rats named Diamond and Ruby. In his spare time, Dr. Katz, a triathon competitor, likes to hike, kayak and study world and American history.

Attlee Douglas, DVM

Attlee Douglas has been working at Bronx Veterinary Center as a part time staff veterinarian since 1997. He likes working at the hospital because of the "very supportive staff." Dr. Douglas has been working with animals for over 20 years and in involved with North Shore Animal League. He has three cats and a dog, and in his spare time, he enjoys gardening, cooking, wine making and bike riding.

Beshoy Rafla, DVM

Dr. Beshoy RaflaDr. Beshoy Rafla is a graduate of Cairo University and completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Veterinary Specialists in July, 2009. He came to Bronx Veterinary Center after completing his internship in 2009.

Asked what he believes to be Bronx Veterinary Center’s areas of strength, Dr. Rafla says, "We offer the best medical care in a very affordable manner. Not only is this good for pet owners trying to balance family finances, but it means I am able to provide care for many more animals."

At home, Dr. Rafla has two cats named Leemoon and Ziko. In his spare time he enjoys biking, fishing, hiking, swimming and playing table tennis.
